Winter Fuel debate at Rushmoor
Liberal Democrat Councillors at the full council meeting on the 7th Nov put forward a motion asking the government to suspend and review the Winter Fuel Payment cuts. Many residents on low incomes just above the cut off point would miss out on these payments causing further hardship this winter, with energy prices almost double prior to the energy crisis. After a long debate this motion was voted down by the Labour Councillors.
A much watered down motion was put forward by the Labour group looking to signpost vulnerable people to extra help via means testing. All parties supported the motion.
We are disappointed though that no statement has been sent to the government asking for a review on the Winter fuel Payment cuts.
