Update on M3 works
As we are all aware major works have been taking place along our sections of the M3. The hard shoulder is being made into a fourth lane. Whilst the Highways agency has been keeping those residents who live close to the M3 informed of the various stages of work it has disrupted many journeys for local residents.
Local Lib Dem Campaigner Leola Card says 'I am one of those residents myself who live very near to the motorway an area I chose to live in. But, I have been keeping a close eye on the work that has been taking place. I have personally been in touch with the Highways Agency querying a number of factors. I am pleased that some work should be beneficial to us including the laying down of a quieter road surface. Noise pollution is one of the major factors that affect local residents. But, I remain unconvinced that the overall work that is taking place will improve drivers' journey times or that incidents will be responded to quickly (there are no refuge areas along our sections of the M3) and I am concerned that the work does nothing to improve pollution levels.'
Reports in the national press lately suggest that this work done in other areas of the country has not eased traffic issues when installed and reports that unless speed is kept below 60 the pollution levels could be worrying.
Leola Card says 'I will be asking the Highways Agency to carefully monitor the air pollution levels, noise levels and whether traffic levels are eased sufficiently. There are local residents with young families living very close to the new fourth lane. We must protect their quality of life and just not concentrate on car journeys travelling through our area.'
