SOUTHERN WATER IS FAILING AND OUR LOCAL ENVIRONMENT IS PAYING THE PRICE

SEWAGE OVERFLOWS

Southern Water was responsible for at least 29,494 sewage overflows in 2023 in the South East of England, analysis by website Top of the Poops revealed.

13 SERIOUS INCIDENTS

“Simply not good enough” said the Chair of the Environment Agency. Southern Water were the second worst company for serious pollution incidents and were deemed to have made little to no improvement from the previous year.

CHALK STREAM DAMAGE

2000 fish die in a protected stream after up to 20 hours of sewage dumping. Southern Water were fined and found to be negligent by a court in Shawford Lake Stream.

RECORD £90 MILLION FINE

Southern Water sentenced to pay record £90 million in fines for widespread pollution after pleading guilty to 6,971 unpermitted sewage discharges. The case is the largest criminal investigation in the Environment Agency’s 25 year history.

IT’S TIME FOR A SEWAGE TAX ON £2.2BN WATER COMPANY ANNUAL PROFITS, A BAN ON EXECUTIVE BONUSES, AND TO START DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE PROPERLY.
