Fair Access for All to Hampshire's Tips

HAMPSHIRE'S WASTE & RECYCLING CENTRES MUST BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL NOT JUST CAR DRIVERS

The right to walk, cycle or use a mobility scooter to visit the Waste & Recycling Centres was officially withdrawn when Hampshire County Council (HCC) reopened centres after the first COVID lockdown.

The introduction of a new booking system has created 2 major problems:

  • It requires a car registration to book a slot - meaning walkers, cyclists & mobility scooter users are excluded.
  • The system does not allow for 'same day booking' - meaning slots are being wasted and the site under-utilised.

This must change. If you agree that HCC should reinstate full access to this service for all residents and allow the 'same day booking' of slots then sign up to the campaign below.

Our campaign is based on three principles: Equal access - for all Hampshire's council tax payers, not just car owners. Tackling the climate emergency - by making recycling and repurposing easier for everyone. Promoting active healthy living - by encouraging those who can, to leave their cars at home and visit the HWRCs on foot or bike.

Since June we have been actively campaigning to ensure no Hampshire residents are discriminated against because they aren't able to drive a car or because they want to access the tip sustainably.

Petition

We are calling on Hampshire County Council to pilot a new booking scheme across Hampshire that would provide timely and fair access for all to its Household Waste Recycling Centres.
