The Liberal Democrats have chosen local campaigner Thomas Mitchell to stand in the St Mark's by-election. The poll will be held on 12 September after Cllr Alain Dekker had to stand down when his wife's job was relocated to Germany. Thomas, who has lived in North Camp for six years, currently works dispensing glasses to people in care homes.

Thomas is campaigning passionately to make North Camp greener and safer by tackling crime, traffic and parking chaos. Thomas says, "I want to closely work with the community and achieve better quality of life for the residents of North Camp, so that all local families feel safe and at home. "We all are aware of the North Camp parking issues and I will be working hard to provide more resident parking zones in the area. Cracking down on crime will be my top priority. Some local families have recently been victims of burglary and it's left them fearful in their own homes.

"If I'm elected I'll be there to tackle big and small issues alike for all local residents here in North Camp - regardless of politics."
