Alan Hilliar fights Conservative plans to remove 90 trees on Lynchford Road
Alan Hilliar is fighting Conservative plans to remove 90 trees from Lynchford Road this autumn.
The Conservative-run County Council is pressing ahead with 'vegetation removal' ahead of widening Lynchford Road, even though construction isn't due to start until 2021 and nobody knows if there will ever be funds available to complete the project.
Alan said, "It is vital that we protect our local green spaces and trees. The Conservatives should be making our local area greener, not felling dozens of trees for an ill-considered road scheme."
Local opposition to the Conservative plans helped Cllr Thomas Mitchell win the St. Mark's by-election in September with the highest Lib Dem vote share for 25 years.
Cllr Mitchell added, "Local residents have been worried about the impact of these plans for some time. It's now clear how much damage the Conservative County Council's plans would cause our local environment.
"The Lib Dems recognise the need to make improvements, especially to St Alban's roundabout and in front of Wavell School, but the scheme must be right for North Camp.
