90 local trees set to be felled in North Camp

Local trees under threat from Conservatives' unpopular Lynchford Road scheme

90 trees could be removed from Lynchford Road this autumn, according to plans released by Conservative-run Hampshire County Council. The council is pressing ahead with 'vegetation removal' ahead of widening Lynchford Road, even though construction isn't due to start until 2021 and nobody knows if there will ever be funds available to complete the project.

Thomas Mitchell is concerned about the trees along Lynchford Road

Thomas Mitchell told Focus, "Local residents have been worried about the impact of these plans for some time. It's now clear how much damage the Conservative County Council's plans would cause our local environment. They don't even have all of the funds needed to complete the project, so there's a real danger that Lynchford Road will be left looking like a building site for years to come.

"The Lib Dems recognise the need to make improvements, especially to St Alban's roundabout and in front of Wavell School, but the scheme must be right for North Camp. The Conservatives are putting the needs of big business ahead of ordinary people and our precious local environment."
