Stop the closure of Farnborough Leisure Centre

Farnborough Leisure Centre is being closed. The proposed new centre won't open for at least 4
years. The loss to the whole Farnborough community is immeasurable, leaving the town without
the benefit of all its sporting facilities and children without an accessible place to learn to swim.

Conservative run Rushmoor Borough Council do not appear to think the physical health and
mental well-being of the local population is worth the cost of underwriting any losses arising from
the re-opening of the centre after the Covid lockdown. Your local Liberal Democrats believe we
can't afford not to reopen as we try to recover from the devastating effects of Covid-19 in our
community.

Leisure facilities are allowed to open again from 12th April, under Government guidelines, but ours
won't. There will be no public swimming pool in Farnborough until at least 2025. This is assuming
the Council can deliver on this timeframe; previously planned redevelopment in Farnborough would
suggest not.
